2nd Grade

The 2nd Grade classes focused their lessons on seed dispersal aligned with the plant adventures unit.

To begin exploring the topic they head the story of the Koa tree. First discovered in Hawaii this tree traveled halfway around the world to Reunion island. Exploring different methods of dispersal the lesson focused on seeds traveling via water, wind, and animal.

During our time together we tested their knowledge of seed dispersal with a sorting activity. Looking at the characteristics of seeds they figured out how nature designed them to be dispersed.

Students were presented with a challenge to design seed carriers that could move seeds via wind, water, or animal. After looking through a box of materials each group had time to brainstorm seed carrier designs.
